FAQ

The practical questions first.

My Money Center is intentionally different from cloud-based finance apps, so a few details are worth understanding before you start.

Using the app

Do I need to download or install anything?

No. Open My Money Center in a modern browser and use it there. The older Linux desktop download is no longer the main version of the app.

Do I need an account or login?

No. There is no My Money Center user account and no financial-data account on the server.

What devices can I use?

The browser version is intended for modern desktop and laptop browsers on Windows, macOS, Linux, and Chromebooks. The layout can also adapt to narrower screens, although large financial tables are naturally easier to work with on a larger display.

Does it work offline?

Yes, after the app has been opened online so its core files can be cached. Your financial data is already stored locally in the browser, so entering or editing transactions does not require a connection to the My Money Center server.

Privacy and storage

Where is my financial data stored?

In your browser profile on your device, using browser-local storage. My Money Center does not store your transaction database on the website server.

Does My Money Center connect to my bank?

No. There are no bank connections and no automatic bank transaction downloads.

Will my data automatically appear in another browser or on another computer?

No. Each browser profile and device has its own local storage. To move your complete My Money Center data, create a backup in the original browser and restore that backup in the other browser or device.

Can browser data ever be cleared?

Yes. Browser privacy settings, manual site-data clearing, profile resets, or cleanup tools can remove locally stored website data. That is why complete backups are important. My Money Center strongly recommends making a backup as soon as setup is complete and continuing to back up regularly.

What could cause my saved data to disappear?

My Money Center stores your data locally in your browser. If your browser is set to clear cookies or site data when it closes, that can also erase My Money Center’s locally stored data. Make sure your browser is allowed to keep site data, and create regular backups so you have a copy you can restore if needed. In Microsoft Edge, check Settings → Privacy, search, and services → Clear browsing data → Choose what to clear every time you close the browser, and make sure Cookies and other site data is turned off.

Backups and moving data

What does a complete backup include?

A My Money Center backup is designed to restore the app's local data, including transactions, categories, names, budgets, repeating items, and settings.

Is CSV Export the same as a backup?

No. CSV Export is a readable transaction export for spreadsheets or sharing. It does not contain everything needed to recreate the app.

What should I do before switching computers or browsers?

Create a complete backup first. Open My Money Center in the new browser or computer, then use Restore Backup in Settings.

Money calculations

What is Safe Spending?

Safe Spending looks at the money available before your chosen next repeating income deposit, subtracts an optional cushion, and spreads the remaining amount across the days until that deposit. It is a planning guide, not a guarantee.

What is the Forecast?

Forecast combines the cleared balance you enter with upcoming uncleared transactions and repeating income or bills so you can see projected balances ahead.

Does My Money Center move money or pay bills?

No. It is a planning and tracking tool. It does not move money, pay bills, or make changes to your bank account.
